The children had at their disposal an almost unlimited number of pieces of wood which allowed them to build a wide variety of different constructions: towers, boats and bridges to name but a few.
While Kapla may be very simple in form, it allows children to develop ideas in geometry, physics and technology. There is also a strong creative element as the children can let their imaginations run free in their use of shapes and volumes. What’s more, Kapla is an invaluable tool for developing fine motor skills, as manipulating Kapla with precision encourages the use of certain small muscles in both fingers and hands.
There was a wonderful social element to the activities, as the children worked closely together to build large and complex structures. It was a rich and rewarding experience for all involved and we hope that the children will be inspired to carry on creating and building both at school and at home.
