On Tuesday October 7th we had our annual sports day. In keeping with our school’s philosophy of active pedagogy, the day was designed to encourage collaboration across all classes. The teams were made of children of mixed ages, creating a strong atmosphere of support and collaboration.

The older children guided and encouraged the younger ones, helping them take part with confidence and enthusiasm across a wide variety of different games and sporting challenges. It was great to see how the cooperation between the children made the activities accessible and enjoyable for all.

The day was also a reminder of the importance of exercise, not just for a healthy body, but also for a healthy mind. Research has shown links between physical activity and the brain. Exercise promotes the growth of the hippocampus, and it positively impacts cognitive functions such as attention, memory, and executive functions involving planning and problem solving.

Sports day has become a tradition at La Découverte, and was all the more important this year as sport is our theme of the year. We were fortunate that it was a beautifully sunny day. The teachers and children of the whole school spent a wonderful moment together, full of activity, movement, camaraderie and fun. It’s a day we will all remember for a long time to come.
